Google Ads Services: What They Actually Include (And What You Should Expect to Pay For)

If you’ve ever searched “Google Ads services” and come away more confused than when you started, you’re not alone. Agencies bundle things differently, freelancers use different names for the same work, and “management” can mean anything from a five-minute glance at your account each week to genuine, hands-on optimisation.

After 17+ years managing paid search for businesses across Pakistan, the UK, US, Australia, and the GCC, I’ve found it helps to break Google Ads work into the actual, distinct services it’s made up of. Here’s what each one really involves — and when you need it.

1. Google Ads Setup

This is the foundation, and it’s the stage most accounts never fully recover from if it’s done badly. A proper setup covers:

  • Account and conversion tracking structure (so you’re measuring the right things from day one)
  • Campaign and ad group architecture built around how your customers actually search — not a generic template
  • Initial keyword research and negative keyword lists
  • Responsive Search Ads written around real search intent, not just your website’s homepage copy

If your account was set up in an afternoon with a handful of broad-match keywords dumped into one ad group, this is usually where the wasted spend starts.

2. Google Ads Management

Setup gets you live. Management is what keeps an account improving month over month. This is the ongoing, hands-on work:

  • Bid and budget adjustments based on real performance data
  • Search term reports reviewed regularly, with wasted spend cut through negative keywords
  • New keyword opportunities added as search behaviour shifts
  • Ad copy testing so winning ads keep replacing weaker ones

3. Google Ads Audits

An audit is different from management — it’s a diagnostic, not an ongoing service. If you already have an account (whether you’ve been running it yourself or paying someone else), an audit tells you, with evidence, exactly where the budget is leaking. Common findings include:

  • Conversion tracking that’s been broken for months without anyone noticing
  • Overlapping campaigns bidding against each other
  • Keywords that have never generated a single conversion still eating budget
  • Missing audience signals in Performance Max, leaving Google’s automation guessing

A good audit pays for itself before you’ve spent a rupee, dollar, or pound on the fix.

4. Performance Max Campaigns

Google’s AI-driven campaign type is powerful, but it’s not “set and forget” the way it’s often marketed. PMax performs in proportion to the quality of the inputs you give it — asset groups, audience signals, conversion data, and exclusions. Managed properly, it can outperform traditional Search campaigns for the right business types; managed carelessly, it can quietly waste budget with very little visibility into why.

5. Shopping Ads & Merchant Center

For e-commerce businesses, this is about getting the fundamentals right before anything else:

  • A clean, correctly structured Google Merchant Center product feed
  • Product titles and attributes optimised for how shoppers actually search
  • Margin-aware bidding, so you’re not chasing revenue at the expense of profit

6. Conversion Tracking, GA4 & Tag Manager

This one is easy to overlook because it’s invisible when it’s working — and expensive when it isn’t. Every other service on this list depends on accurate tracking. If your conversion data is wrong, every “optimisation” decision built on top of it is a guess.

7. Landing Pages & Conversion Rate Optimisation (CRO)

Traffic isn’t the goal — conversions are. A landing page built specifically for a campaign, matched to the exact offer and intent of the ad someone clicked, consistently outperforms sending that same traffic to a generic homepage. CRO takes this further by testing and refining the page itself: layout, form length, trust signals, and calls to action.

8. Bing (Microsoft) Ads

Often skipped entirely, Microsoft Ads reaches a real, distinct audience — often older, often higher-income — at a lower cost per click than Google in many industries. For businesses already running solid Google Ads campaigns, adding Bing is usually a low-risk way to extend reach.

9. Display, Remarketing & YouTube Ads

These sit further up (and around) the funnel than Search. Remarketing keeps your business in front of people who’ve already visited your site but didn’t convert. Display and YouTube build awareness with audiences who haven’t searched for you yet but match your customer profile.

10. Local Services Ads

For eligible local service businesses (home services, legal, and others), Local Services Ads offer pay-per-lead pricing and a Google Guaranteed badge — a genuinely different model from standard Search campaigns, and worth considering alongside them rather than instead of them.

How to Actually Choose

A few honest rules of thumb:

  • New to Google Ads? Start with proper setup and conversion tracking before spending a rupee on clicks.
  • Already running ads but not sure they’re working? Get an audit before signing up for more management.
  • Running an online store? Shopping and Performance Max should usually anchor your account, with Search filling gaps.
  • Local service business? Local Services Ads plus tightly localised Search campaigns tend to outperform broad targeting.

The Bottom Line

Google Ads isn’t one service — it’s a set of connected disciplines, and most underperforming accounts are missing one or two of the pieces above rather than being “bad” across the board. Whether you manage it in-house, work with an agency, or bring in a specialist, the questions worth asking are the same: is tracking accurate, is the account structured around real intent, and is someone actually looking at the data on a regular basis?
